Innocent Until Proven Guilty

This strikes close to home.

Certain misguided individuals slandered a friend of mine.

My friend chose not to deny their allegations.

Their detractors chose to view this as a sign from my friend that their false accusations were grounded in reality.

Yet they forgot one thing.

At least in this country, no one accused of a crime ever has to deny the allegations.

Simply put, my friend does not have to prove their innocence.
Her accusers must prove her guilt.

Why oh why do some people forget this very simple principle?

Any thoughts?
